Coworking – why didn’t I think of this?

I read this article on The Independent Journalist, the Society of Professional Journalists freelancers’ blog this morning.  It’s about coworking – a simple but brilliant idea to ameliorate the loneliness and distraction of working from home.  And to solve the problem of talking too loud on a cell phone in Panera.  The basic setup is that a group rents a location and members of the coworking group pay a fee for a set number of visits to the location.  However, I think it might be possible to do without a limited number of visits; for instance, if a group pays a percentage of rent on office space they could work there whenever they need to.

This idea would also lessen the risk of spilling a latte on your laptop, an accident with which I am familiar, unfortunately.
